Dry Vignoles 2018

Vignoles has a long history in the Finger Lakes.  In 1970 the Finger Lakes Wine Growers Association gave Ravat 51 the name Vignoles.  J.F. Ravat was a French vine breeder in the 1930’s. For a long time, it was thought that the parents of Vignoles were Siebel and Pinot Noir, but the latest genetic testing proved that to be false. The parentage is still unknown.   When the Knapp wine making team was thinking about a 35th Anniversary special wine, Vignoles came to mind because of its history in the Finger Lakes and most importantly its presence at Knapp. In 1993, a Late Harvest Vignoles won the coveted New York Governors Cup.  Knapp has over six acres of Vignoles and has generally produced semi-sweet to late harvest styles.  This is the first time we have produced a Dry Vignoles.
